Here at the Bahama Paradise Cruise Line we want your trip the be unforgettable, so we wanted to go over some fun events that will be taking place on the Island and things to do when you dock at Grand Bahama. Grand Bahama Island is packed with tropical fun in the sun and is the only place where you can see ALL six of The Bahamas’ ecosystems on one trail. It’s also home to a vast Underwater Cave, Peterson Cay National Park, and Rand Nature Centre which is a birder’s paradise. You’ll also get the opportunity to visit cultural and historical sites, along with some beautiful fishing villages, and ecological wonders.
What’s on the calendar? Well, there are some exciting events that will be taking place in the upcoming months, and here we’ll take the time to highlight just a few for our guests:
On May 21st, Freeport will be celebrating the 5th Annual Ole Freetown Cultural Festival; this is a cultural festival that will be highlighting the heritage of Freetown. This is a daylong festival (from 11 am – 8 pm) that will feature some fun traditional competitions and games such as washboard, tin tub racing and a pineapple eating contest. The location of this festival will take place at the Gold Rock Creek East, which happens to be the site of Pirates of the Caribbean film set.
For the month of May leading into June, they will be hosting the First Annual Power Boat Race and Summer Festival, so if you have a need for speed and are an adrenaline junky, you don’t want to miss out on this event which will take place from May 25th thru June 3rd.
Then from July 5th thru July 26th(held every Thursday in the month of July) located at the Taino Beach in there will be the Goombay Summer Festival which features live displays of Bahamian culture in the form of food and music, and who doesn’t love food and music? Here at the Goombay Summer Festival, you can shop till you drop while you browse through authentic Bahamian arts and crafts, you’ll get the opportunity to sample some local delicacies and party and dance to the beat of Junkanoo!
Then on August 6th the High Rock Sea Festival will take place, this festival celebrates the bounties of the sea, here at this festival you can enjoy some live performances by local bands, a Junkanoo Rush-out, and some amazing culinary delectable(s) which will include an array of all the fish, conch and lobster you can eat!
